Terms of Service

The agreement between you and Evidina Tutoring.

1. Who you are dealing with

Evidina Tutoring is a sole proprietorship operated by Franco Jonker, based in Lorraine, Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), Eastern Cape, South Africa.

In these terms, “I” and “me” mean Evidina Tutoring, and “you” means the person booking lessons — usually the parent or legal guardian of the student, or the student where they are 18 or older.

2. What the service is

Private one-on-one tutoring in mathematics, mathematical literacy, physical science, and first-year university physics, chemistry and calculus. Lessons are taught in English or Afrikaans, whichever suits the student.

Lessons are in person only. I travel to the student's home in the Gqeberha suburbs listed in section 3. I do not currently offer online tutoring.

Small group sessions for two to four students studying the same subject can be arranged by agreement, at a rate quoted before the first session.

3. Where lessons happen, and travel fees

Lessons take place at the student's home. Travel is charged once per visit, not per hour, and is not discounted as part of a prepaid package.

  • Zone A — No travel fee: Lorraine, Lorraine Manor, Sunridge Park, Framesby, Mount Pleasant, Charlo
  • Zone B — R50 per visit: Newton Park, Mill Park, Fernglen, Kabega, Sherwood, Westering, Greenacres
  • Zone C — R100 per visit: Walmer, Summerstrand, Humewood, Mount Croix

If your suburb is not listed, ask — I will tell you honestly whether I can make the drive work. Travel distance is the only reason a suburb is or is not on this list.

4. Booking

You can request lessons through the booking page, by WhatsApp, or by email. An enquiry is not a booking: a lesson is confirmed once I have replied and we have agreed a specific date, time, length and place.

The first 15-minute conversation, by phone or WhatsApp, is free and carries no obligation.

5. Fees and payment

Tutoring is charged at R250 per hour, applied to the length of the session, plus the travel fee for your zone. Current prices for each session length are on the pricing page.

Payment for a single lesson is due on or before the day of that lesson. Prepaid packages are paid in advance. I accept EFT and cash. I do not store card details, and I will never ask you for them.

If I change my prices, the new prices apply only to lessons booked afterwards. Lessons you have already paid for are never repriced.

6. Prepaid lesson packages

Lessons may be bought in advance at a discount:

  • 5 lessons: 5% off the lesson fee
  • 10 lessons: 10% off the lesson fee

The discount applies to the tutoring fee only. Travel is charged per visit at the normal rate.

Prepaid lessons do not expire. They remain available until they are used or refunded under section 7.

Money you pay in advance is for lessons not yet given. I treat it as yours until the lesson happens, and section 7 sets out exactly what you get back if it does not.

7. Cancellations, missed lessons and refunds

Plans change. This is what happens when they do.

You stop lessons partway through a packageUnused lessons are refunded. Lessons already taken are re-priced at the single-lesson rate — see the worked example below.

Why lessons already taken are re-priced. The package discount is for committing to the whole block. If you use part of it and stop, the lessons you did have were single lessons, so they are charged as single lessons and the rest of your money comes back.

Worked example. You buy 10 × 90-minute lessons for R3,375 — that is R3,750 less the 10% package discount. After three lessons you decide to stop. Those three are re-priced at the single-lesson rate of R375 each, which is R1,125. You are refunded R3,375 − R1,125 = R2,250.

Refunds are paid by EFT within 14 days of us agreeing the amount. If something serious has happened — illness, a family emergency, a move — tell me. The table is the default, not a wall.

8. Safeguarding and the session venue

Most of my students are under 18 and I teach in their homes, so a few things are fixed rather than negotiable:

  • A parent, guardian or other responsible adult must be at home for the whole of any lesson with a student under 18.
  • Lessons take place in a common area — a dining room, kitchen or study — and not behind a closed door.
  • I do not transport students, and I do not tutor a student under 18 anywhere other than the agreed home address without the parent or guardian's arrangement.
  • Messages about lessons go to the parent or guardian. Where a student under 18 is included, a parent or guardian is included too.

If you would like to see a police clearance certificate before the first lesson, ask and I will provide it.

9. What tutoring can and cannot promise

I will prepare properly, teach honestly, and tell you plainly what I think is going on with the student's work. What I cannot do is guarantee a mark or a pass. Results depend on the student's effort between lessons, their starting point, and how much time is left before the exam.

If I do not think tutoring is the right answer for a student, or that someone else would serve them better, I will say so rather than keep taking the fee.

10. Lesson materials

Worksheets, notes and exercise sets I prepare for lessons are mine, and are for the student's own use. Please do not sell them or distribute them commercially. Sharing a worksheet with a classmate is fine.

The free resources and articles published on this website are a different matter: they are free to read, print, and pass on. Anything published on the resources page or the blog may be used freely by students and teachers.

11. Your personal information

What I collect, why, how long it is kept and how to have it deleted are all set out in the privacy policy. In short: I collect what is needed to arrange lessons and reply to you, and nothing is sold or shared for marketing.

12. If something goes wrong

Please tell me first, at info@evidina.co.za. Most problems are a misunderstanding about a time or a fee and are sorted out the same day. I aim to respond to any complaint within 5 working days.

These terms do not take away any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008. If we cannot resolve something between us, you may refer the matter to:

These terms are governed by South African law, and the courts of South Africa have jurisdiction.

13. Changes to these terms

I may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. Terms that applied when you paid for a package continue to apply to that package — a change cannot be used to reduce what you already bought.
